Charlton v Blades match report

Our first away result for a long time and a valuable point towards safety!

A fine battling performance from the Blades and not without some skill either.

Apart from a lucky deflected goal (twice!), we never looked troubled defensively and produced the best flowing move of the game for Stead's fine finish.

Indeed, with a little more composure, with Tongey laying off the ball for Gillespie instead of blasting over, we could have snatched the 3 points from under their noses.

Still, a point was more than welcome and keeps Charlton firmly 2 points beneath us.

Player Ratings:

Kenny : 7.5/10 - A great finger tip save in the first half, but loses half a point for a dodgy fumble which resulted in a corner.

Geary : 8/10 - Usual typical terrier like game from him. The sort of player you'd want with you if you were playing for your life!

Jags : 7.5/10 - Solid as usual. Was involved in the goal and showed his versatility again by playing in 3 different positions through the game.

Morgan: 8/10 - Just like Geary. You know what you get from Chris and he rarely lets you down.

Kilgallon : 7.5/10 - After some initial problems with Rommendahl down the right wing, he settled down well and looked good.

Gillespie : 7/10 - A bit up and down with his crossing, but overall a steady performance.

Monty : 8.5/10 - The Rock!

After being his staunchest critic, I have to admit he has won me around. The very antithesis of a defensive midfielder.

Tonge : 8/10 - He has come good of late. Another fine performance and surging runs. the last one of which was unlucky not to be turned into a goal.

Armstrong : 7/10 - Did okay, but offered us little in the crossing department from the left. Prefer him qat left back.

Shelton: 6.5/10 - After a fine debut at Old Trafford, he failed to live up to this billing at Charlton. He tried hard enough, but didn't quite get the service he needs. Still think he will be a star for us in future games.

Stead : 9/10 - Led the forward line brilliantly.

His goal was class, but his willingness to tackle back and help fill in in defence when necessary was top drawer! A steal at 750K!

Subs:

Kazim : 8/10 - Did very well when he came on and helped set up the goal with two cool passes.

Leigterwood: 6/10 - I may be generous with that mark there. Can't remember him touching the ball. How he makes the bench before Fathi is beyond me!
